Title I Description
Written Parent and Family Engagement Policies
Districts and schools must notify parents of participating children1 in Title I schools, and the community, of their written parent and family engagement policies, jointly developed with parents of participating children. [ESSA Section 1116 (a)-(b)] This includes a district notification and a school notification.
Written School-Parent Compact
Schools that receive Title I, Part A funds must jointly develop with parents, a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high standards. [ESSA Section 1116(d)] Compacts will be passed out at the first meeting after school begins.
Parents Right to Know the following:
The district must notify parents of students attending Title I schools that they may request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers, and whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications. [ESSA Section 1112(e)(1)(A)]
The district must provide to each parent of all children attending Title I-A schools timely notice that the parent’s child has been assigned, or has been taught for 4 or more consecutive weeks by, a teacher who has not met applicable State certification requirements. [ESSA Section 1112(e)(1)(B)(ii)]a
Schools that receive Title I, Part A funds must provide to each parent information on the level of achievement of the parent’s child in each of the state academic assessments. [ESSA Section 1112 (e)(1)(B)(i)]

Each Title I school invites parents of participating children to a meeting to inform them about the school’s participation in Title I, Part A programs. School staff must explain the requirements of the program and their right to be involved. [ESSA Section 1116 (c)(1)]
